The whole, "manny to the Giants" thing is just Scot Boras sticking his hands in the media. if he makes LA thnik that the Giants are actually thinking of signing him, then manny will be worth much more. he is trying to raise the competition.
However, if they actually are going to make a run for him,manny will be similar to Bonds. When he was happy, so was everyone else. in addition, they will be better than the Dodgers, who have no one without Manny.
The Giants become the favorites to win the NL west with Manny… they would be nuts not to go after him…… you gotta remember Winn is one of the most under rated hitters in the game and Sandoval is going to have a monster rookie year
They don’t need him. If they sign crede or a cheaper, less problamatic player, they’ll contend. They’ll contend with what they have now so you shouldn’t be so caught up in getting manny
