Why do people insist on saying that 'Brady Quinn is the future in Cleveland'?

If Derek Anderson plays like he did this season for the next few years, why even have Quinn on the roster? I mean Anderson is only ONE DAMN year older than Quinn (24 – 23). If Anderson plays consistent, he’s a franchise QB for years to come. I say trade off Quinn, if anyone will take him and pick up a veteran QB to mentor Anderson.

  1. I agree with your assessment.

2 words concerning Brady Quinn….trade bait.
Quinn was drafted to be the savior but instead Anderson flourished.

It was Quinn’s job to lose but he screwed himself out of the opportunity by holding out. His ego got bruised (like Leinart’s did the year before) because he wasn’t drafted as high as he THOUGHT he should’ve been. Now, he’s paying the price for his greed.

Sorry Brady, your screwed yourself out of a starting QB position.

  2. His first name is the same as Tom Brady’s last name. That’s pretty good, I’d stick with it, if I were them.

  3. people don’t say that, you just want them to so you can rant on like this

  4. OK well we already have the veteran in Ken Dorsey, he played in this same system in college so he knows it inside and out. Derek did well the first half of the year and then his production fell off some. I think that Quinn is a better natural leader, he projects himself as more confident and I think he could lead the team better than Anderson. I don’t think Anderson is smart enough, he makes poor decisions sometimes.

  5. u actually need both of them. truthfully with the ebb and flow of the game and injuries you have to keep both. anderson has had one good year and quinn has yet to take the field. so crowning anderson the saviour of cleveland and brady quinn the future is premature.

  6. you got a good idea i think they would do really well plus i dont know if brady quinn can connect with braylon edwards

  7. Of course nothing is guaranted but who else is there besides him and Anderson? Since Anderson is playing now that obvioulsy makes Quinn the future qb unless he is traded.

  8. From the brief look at Quinn in the last game it appears that he should and could be just as good, if not better then Anderson. If that is the case then Cleveland should trade Anderson this off season because he has a lot of value right now. The offensive line, running backs, and receivers make a QB look good, and I think with the addition of Joe Thomas, and have 2 great receiving threats in Edwards and Winslow most any decent QB will have good stats.

If the organization thinks that Quinn can be just as good as Anderson then they have to trade anderson, becasue no one will really give them much for Quinn as they would for Anderson right now.

  9. Ok prove to us Brady Quinn won’t be the future of the Browns . You think any team is going to pay a Back-up QB the kinda of money they are giving Quinn . Derek Anderson’s salary will have to be addressed and the Browns will not keep both high Paid QB’s on the Roster . Anderson will be throwing for a new team in 08 . Detroit , Miami, Atlanta could all benefit from a Derek Anderson .

  10. it’s about money…

they spent a ton on Brady Quinn – this means HE WILL get to play. Anderson is a restricted FA right now; and team will be interested in him. Cleveland gets a 1st and 3rd round pick automatically. If they tag him with the franchise mark, other teams would have to give up 2 1st rounders for him.

So, right now they can get more for Anderson, and he’s proven himself so more teams will be interested in him.

Your mistake is you are thinking about football performance and not about accounting and value.

  11. Okay… IF Derek Anderson plays like he did this season for the next few years, why have Quinn on the roster….. IF Anderson is consistent….. IF anyone would give you something you’d consider fair for Quinn….. those are some big "if"s. Quinn will be ready to play by the end of next season, so if you’re going to make a decision now, you better be sold on those ifs.

Personally, I am not a huge fan of Anderson. I haven’t seen him play much, but the fact that he was stuck behind Charlie Frye – a guy who can’t get a second stringer job elsewhere – makes me wonder about him. He’s got a nice deepball, which is a good fit for the Browns offense, and perhaps his low completion percentage (56.5) is as much due to taking shots downfield as it is to him being inaccurate… However, when you look at yards per attempt, he ranks right around the likes of Donovan McNabb – a guy who plays in the west coast (aka quick, short passes), didn’t have a true deep threat this season, and is not exactly renowned for his accuracy. Anderson’s completion percentage ranks above only Trent Edwards, Eli Manning, Rex Grossman, and Kellen Clemons amongst "starters." If my starting/franchise QB was even mentioned among those names, I’d be looking for a new one.

Anderson throws way too many interceptions right now – he has roughly the same completion percentage and number of interceptions as Eli Manning…. that’s not a good thing. His QB rating is below the likes of Sage Rosenfels – a guy who sucks, is a career backup, and also has less receiving and rushing talent and a worse line. The thing that frightens me the most is that Anderson has played poor games against just about all the decent teams the Browns have played. Sure he threw 3 TD’s against the Steelers, but he only completed 46% of his passes in a losing effort (and in the first game he had about the same completion precenatage and 1 TD and 1 INT). New England picked him off 3 times, and he averaged 225 yards 1 td and 1 int in his 2 games against Baltimore…. respectable I guess, but far from great. Now, factor in the fact that 15 of his TD’s came in games against the Rams, Bengals, Cardinals, and Dolphins (basically 5 of the worst defenses in the NFL), keep in mind that the Browns have only beaten one team with a winning record (the Seahawks – who have also only beaten one team with a winning record), and factor in the tougher schedule that the Browns will face next year…. suddenly, I see the Derek Anderson era falling flat on it’s face next season.

Either way, Quinn is starting for them by the end of next season – he is the future, but even so, the smart play for them is to keep Anderson unless they can get a first round or early second round pick for him. It never hurts to have two qb’s on a team (just look at how many injuries there were this year).

  12. Brady Quinn is a legit rock star in the city. Before even signing a contract with the Browns, an autograph appearance in a suburban shopping mall found fans paying between $75-$200 for mostly already signed merchandise.

Because of the sharks in the local media – and The Plain Dealer sports columnists, in particular – Quinn was "scheduled" to be the starter by about mid-season, with Frye handing over the starter’s position and Anderson perhaps as the third stringer.

I agree with your assessment and actually said as much as an answer to a recent question – if the Browns receive a 1st, 3rd and 5th or 6th for the upcoming draft in return (there is a dearth of even marginal QB’s in the league). But this city would explode with outrage not seen since Bernie Kosar was cut if Quinn would be traded.

  13. Because DA is trade bait for a first and a third round draft choice. The Browns won’t get that much for Quinn, since he hasn’t played in the NFL yet. The Browns need a d-lineman and another linebacker, and DA might be the guy to get them those players.
